Lymphedema is often misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. Delays in diagnosis or treatment can result in rapid and unchecked progression of the disease.

Lymphedema is a chronic disease that results in a build up of lymph fluid (swelling) that occurs when the lymphatic system is either faulty or damaged.

There is no cure for lymphedema, but it can be effectively treated:

  • Drainage

  • Compression

  • Exercise

  • Massage


Over time, lymphedema (especially if poorly treated)
often results in number of complications including:

  • Infections

  • Disfigurement

  • Pain

  • Disability


In addition to swelling, symptoms of lymphedema include:

  • Tingling

  • Numbness

  • Achiness

  • Feelings of fullness and tightness

  • Changes in skin
